Headaches and Chiropractic Care

Published February 26th, 2019 by Dr. Daner

Everyone in every walk of life has experienced headaches before. From teenagers to the elderly, headaches are common for a variety of reasons. These include stress, dehydration, diet/lifestyle, medical reasons, poor posture, spinal misalignments, etc. Most of the reasons people get headaches can be avoided by altering lifestyle habits. However, when it comes to headaches related to misalignments of the spine, a call to your chiropractor is your best bet!

Chiropractic care is a natural treatment that promotes the body’s own healing ability, called Innate Intelligence. Basically, this term means “the power that made the body heals the body”. Our bodies know how to properly regulate themselves and heal themselves. However, this is only 100% true when the nervous system is free of interference, which is the exact job that chiropractors do. We do this by aligning the vertebrae in the spine so the brain, spinal cord, and nerves can talk to each other without interference. This promotes ideal health. The majority of headaches are associated with misalignments and muscle tension in the neck. People are sitting more than ever, in front of computers, on cell phones, or driving. This increases joint irritation and muscle tension in the neck and upper back, which causes your head to ache. Chiropractic adjustments will align the spine and ease this irritation and tension, and obviously help with the pain from the headaches. In addition, consulting with your chiropractor and being properly educated regarding proper posture will help prevent these headaches in the future. Furthermore, your chiropractor can help with lifestyle changes, such as dietary advice, stress management techniques, and educating on the importance of hydration and proper nutrition.

Headaches are a pain, but they are both preventable and treatable. They do not always have to be treated with medicine, some headaches can be helped through natural, drug free intervention by your chiropractor. Next time you have a headache, do not reach for the aspirin, reach for the phone and call your chiropractor!
