New To Chiropractic?
When you hear the term "chiropractic care", what do you think of? If you've been to a chiropractor before, you probably feel relaxed and rejuvenated because you are already aware of the many benefits of chiropractic care. On the other hand, if you're new to chiropractic, it might seem a little scary! Cracking backs, adjusting necks, yikes!
Here at Markson Chiropractic, we want you to be as comfortable as possible. And the more educated you are about chiropractic care, the less afraid you will feel stepping into our practice. If chiropractic is new to you, take a deep breath and relax. Here's what you need to know about your first visit.
What To Expect
The first time you visit us, you will have a consultation. We want a thorough understanding of what brought you into our practice. Are you in pain? How much? We will ask a variety of questions to gauge what level you're at. Remember that it is our goal to determine the underlying cause the of the issues you are experiencing. When we can determine the real root of the problem, we can develop a treatment plan to address those issues. Pain is a symptom of something and we want to treat the cause of that symptom, not just the symptom. Feel free to bring up any questions or concerns you might have and we will do our best to make sure you understand every step of your treatment plan.
After all questions have been asked and answered, we will move on to a physical examination. We will look at the way your body moves to determine if you have any joint restrictions or dysfunctions or muscle imbalances that could be part of the problem that brought you to us in the first place. Chiropractic has many advantages, and one of them is that if done regularly, it often addresses problems before they cause you pain. We've found and corrected many irregularities for our patients before they even became an issue. Talk about a win-win!
Does Chiropractic Hurt?
You might think that popping or cracking a part of your body, particularly your spine, will be painful. But as your chiropractor, we understand the mechanics of the human body. The treatment methods we use shouldn’t hurt, though in some instances, you may experience minor soreness as your body acclimates to improved joint movement. In fact, many of our patients report that the treatment feels good and like a weight has been removed. Imagine the cracking or popping that occurs (usually gas being released from the joint) is your body sighing in relief as the joint dysfunctions and restrictions are finally being lifted!
Chiropractic Qualifications
Our first-time chiropractic patients will often ask what sort of qualifications chiropractors have. Just like other medical professionals, we are required to earn our degrees and must take a special exam to be licensed to practice in the state of Florida. Although chiropractic might not be as familiar to people as other medical professions, we have to be licensed to treat our patients. It is also important that you as a patient practice good judgment and choose a healthcare provider that you are comfortable with. You would see a self-taught dentist out of the back of a van, and you shouldn't see a chiropractor who doesn't have proper qualifications ,either!
We are confident that you'll love the benefits of chiropractic care as much as we do. We will help ease your aches and pains (and other health issues!) and have you on the path to optimal health. Contact us today for your consultation!
