Stretch Out Your Travel Pain

Published July 13th, 2021 by Dr. Hoder

With summer here and the majority of the country reopened, many people are heading out for summer vacations. As much fun as travel is, it can also be tough on your body, so knowing what stretches to do can help keep your back flexible and prepared to handle a long car ride. Here are some stretches to remember to help relieve travel pain.

Toe Raises

Toe raises are a great way to stretch out your calves and your back and are simple enough to do anywhere. Stand with your feet hip-width apart, then raise onto the balls of your feet and squeeze your toes and legs. Lower back down to the ground and repeat as many times as you like. This is a great move to do while waiting in line to get food or while pumping gas. If you’re a passenger, you can even do this one sitting down!

Seated Twists

Seated twists can be done right from — you guessed it — your seat! Just grip the chair below and twist your body to one side while remaining faced forward. Return to the starting position and twist in the opposite direction. Repeat this move a few times to loosen up the muscles and get blood flowing to the area again. This is a great stretch to do to reduce tension.

Side Stretch

When sitting for an extended period of time, your low back muscles tend to feel pressure. Side stretches can help remove some of that pressure and stretch out the back to relieve travel pain. Bend over to one side and hold for a few seconds before returning to standing position. Then bend to the other side and repeat. Do these motions slowly to best ease tension.

As you prepare for your summer travels, keep these stretches in mind and be sure to stop by your local Plantation chiropractor for an adjustment to ensure your body is functioning optimally. To connect with the chiropractic professionals at Markson Chiropractic, just click here!
