What Made Me Become a Chiropractor

Generally, our blog posts are informative, helping educate patients on the many benefits of chiropractic care. Time to switch it up! This month, we would like to share something on a more personal note: the story of what brought me into this profession and made me become a chiropractor. I genuinely hope that my journey brings a smile to your face.
Fateful Event Leads to a Big Life Change
Back in late 1999, I was substitute teaching full-time and had an offer for a permanent position as an English teacher at a local middle school. Though history was my undergrad major, I felt comfortable teaching English. However, I was not sure about accepting the position, because quite frankly, I did not love being a teacher.
Early one Monday morning, I was on my way to the school to shadow the existing teacher who was leaving in a few weeks. While sitting in the turn lane on Broward and Nob Hill (a familiar location), I was violently rear-ended by another car, which pushed me into the car ahead of me. Following the accident, I had agonizing neck and upper back pain, consistent with a bad whiplash injury.
The First Time I Felt the Benefits of Chiropractic Care
After a day of being in pain, my mother suggested that I go see her chiropractor. I had never been to one and was very skeptical. Begrudgingly, I went after a few days of suffering. However, after two adjustments, my pain was 90% gone. I could not believe it!
My Journey to Become a Chiropractor Begins
As it turns out, one of my undergrad roommates was already enrolled in chiropractic school at Life University in Atlanta. He encouraged me to come for a visit to tour the campus and learn more about chiropractic. I was immediately excited and intrigued by the possibility of being a chiropractor! Obviously, it did not hurt that I was not exactly enamored with the idea of being a teacher. But even so, in the following months and years, I knew that I was meant to be a chiropractor.
I practiced in Atlanta for years after graduating before deciding to move back home to Florida. When I saw that Markson Chiropractic was hiring an associate, I knew that it was the job for me. After all, the office is located about 100 yards away from where the accident occurred that basically made me become a chiropractor! It was like life had come full circle and I was where I was meant to be. Four and a half years later, I am still with Markson and could not be happier!
