Wrist & Finger Pain? Chiropractic Can Help

Published April 27th, 2021 by Dr. Markson

You may not think about it, but our hands are a huge part of making our day happen. As we prepare breakfast, work, care for ourselves and our families, our hands never stop moving. But by the end of the day, it may be a different story!

Repetitive tasks at home or work can create lasting pain. If you are struggling with hand, wrist, or finger pain or carpal tunnel syndrome, chiropractic may be able to help. Here’s what you need to know.

Come to Markson Chiropractic

At Markson Chiropractic, our entire staff is dedicated to helping our patients live happy, healthy, and pain-free lives. Our chiropractors help everyone from babies to seniors find the best solutions for pain and wellness.

During your appointment, we will ask about your normal routine both at home and at work, your current pain level, and your health history. Together, we will find the best course of action to keep your hands and wrists pain-free.

Try Range of Motion Exercises

Harvard Health emphasizes that if you are suffering from stiffness, pain, or swelling in your hands, mobility exercises can help keep your hands functional and flexible. And we agree!

By using the normal range of motion functions of your hands, these home exercises can help relieve pain and should be done slowly and deliberately. If you experience pain or numbness, stop the exercise and let your doctor or chiropractor know. Hold each position for 5-10 seconds, working up to doing them 10x each, three times a day.

Hand/finger tendon glide – Extend fingers straight out. Make a hook fist, then return it to a straight hand. Make a fist, then return to a straight hand.

Thumb flexion/extension – Start with your thumb pointing out. Then move your thumb across your palm and back to the starting position.

Wrist extension/flexion – Put your forearm on a table with your hand hanging over the edge, palm facing down. Move your hand up until you feel a gentle stretch. Return to starting position.
